The kingdom of Chianti has opened its doors to hospitality

Badia a Coltibuono is the first wine resort in Chianti, opening it's doors to travellers and visitors who want to share a truly unique experience. Here it is possible to encounter the magic of a venue, to observe the slow yet intense rhythm of a 1000 year old abbey and farm and to sleep in history. Guests can rest and relax in the magnificent Italian style garden or, during the summer months, around the large open-air swimming pool. For the rest of the year, Badia a Coltibuono also has an indoor counter current swimming pool, with an annexed Turkish bath.

At 650 metres above sea level summers are temperate and the villa naturally cool in the evenings. 800 hectares of forests, crisscrossed with walking or mountain biking paths provide for a pristine natural backdrop.

Badia a Coltibuono has 8 double guest bedrooms all with en-suite bathroom. Three of these are more spacious with views spanning the Valdarno valley and 5 rooms with views over the magnificent renaissance gardens. Each room has it's own unique charm, in décor and style reflecting the elegance of the surroundings. As Badia a Coltibuono is still a private residence and does not have a night porter, arrivals after 7:30 pm are not accepted.

In addition to the rooms, 2 self catering apartments are available for weekly rentals within the monastery's walls.

The old granary has been transformed by the family into a spacious apartment available for weekly rental. The apartment, can sleep 6 persons in 2 double and 2 single rooms on 2 floors. The apartment includes 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen with terrace and outdoor eating space, bright and spacious living room, with large windows overlooking the magnificent formal gardens.

The Magnolia apartment, richly furnished in "Empire" style furniture can sleep a maximum of four adults, in 2 single rooms and one double bedroom. The apartment includes 2 bathrooms, kitchen and bright living room with dining area with central views on the Italian style gardens. Facilities for house guests include internet point and 10% reduction on all meals taken at our restaurant, or enrolment in a day cooking class.

It's also possible to organise, for private exclusive groups of minimum 10 people, semi-professional guided tasting on appointment only. The tasting sessions are preceded by a comprehensive visit and can include a selection of historical and rare vintages and can also be accompanied by a selection of local cold cuts and cheeses.

For around a century and a half the name and history of the Stucchi Prinetti family has been linked with Badia a Coltibuono. It was in fact in 1846 that one of the family's forbearers, the Florentine banker Guido Giuntini, acquired the beautiful Romanesque structure and the surrounding farms. Thanks to his complete dedication the entire property began to flourish and survived the second world war virtually intact.
